Winter 2010 Art Instruction
Ceramics: Mary DeClerico, Teacher
Hand built ceramics has no prerequisites and is fun for all ages. Students will have the opportunity to explore pinch, coil and slab methods of hand built ceramics. All pieces will be fired and glazed. Max: 6

Color Theory and Design: Mary DeClerico, Teacher
Prerequisite—Drawing 1
This class is intended to introduce students to the fundamentals of color theory and principles of design. Projects are structured to allow for experimentation and the development of an appreciation for art regardless of the students artistic ability. Mediums such as marker, oil pastel, collage and colored pencil will be used. Students will be introduced to well-known artists and their works through class discussion. Attention will be given to understanding art from a Christian perspective. Max: 6

Exploring Drawing: Mary DeClerico, Teacher
Students will have the opportunity to work with drawing pencils, charcoal, colored pencil and pastel. They will be introduced to the elements of art (line, shape, form, space, texture, value and color) and basic drawing techniques. Subject matter will include: still life, portrait drawing, landscape and perspective. Attention will be given to understanding art from a Christian perspective. Max: 6

Exploring Painting: Mary DeClerico, Teacher
Students will have the opportunity to work in tempra, watercolor and acrylic paint. We will discuss a variety of famous artists and the style of art that they made famous. With the various mediums of paint, students will create, their own works based on the style of art being studied. Attention will be given to understanding art from a Christian perspective. Max: 6

Introduction to Painting: Mary DeClerico, Teacher
Prerequisite—Drawing 1 & Color Theory and Design
This class is intended to further the students education in art by introducing them to several mediums of paint ( tempra, watercolor, acrylic). Students will try their hand at still life, landscape, and abstract painting. Well-known artists and their works will be discussed. Attention will be given to understanding art from a Christian perspective. Max: 6

Sculpture: Mary DeClerico, Teacher
This class is intended to introduce students to the basics of sculpture. Projects will include sculpture with wire, self hardening clay and stone like material. Students will also be introduced to relief sculpture. When possible, subject matter will have ties to what is being studied in the Explorations in Literature course taught by Janine Burgan. Attention will be given to understanding art from a Christian perspective. Max: 6
